With a bit of theater magic, the moving of a wall can transform a space from the backstage area in 1940s Baltimore into Old Italy for a musical rendition of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.”

The magic is part of “Kiss Me, Kate,” which begins Friday at Anacortes Community Theatre. The musical, which features a show-within-a-show plot, runs at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays April 19 to May 12.
