New football coach ready to come to AHS Posted by Jack Darnton | Apr 30, 2012 | 362 views

Anacortes High School’s new football coach has head coaching experience at Tyee (SeaTac), Sumner and Monroe high schools and brings a wealth of experience to the Anacortes program.

Andy Haynie will be in town Tuesday to meet with students and school leaders. His hiring is pending School Board approval.

Athletic Director Rick Mergentahaler said Haynie is known for building positive relationships with his student athletes. He was nominated in 1993 as the Seamont coach of the year, in 1998 as the South Puget Sound coach of the year and in 2003 as the Westco North 4A coach of the year. Most recently Haynie served as an assistant coach at Bothell High School.

Haynie will follow Bill Evans, who stepped down last fall after leading the Seahawks for three years. His 2010 squad made a run to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
