Anacortes blasted Blaine 7-1 on Tuesday, March 26, but lost 2-1 to Lynden Thursday, March 28.
Against the Borderites, Milan Kassa scored three goals and Takeo Nystrom picked up five assists as the Seahawks dominated the Nothwest Conference match.
The Lynden Lions took advantage of eight Seahawk errors and won 14-8 in a non-conference game on Monday, March 25. Two days later the Seahawks fell to Ferndale 5-0 in their first Northwest Conference game.
More than 260 swimmers, ages 7 to 18, participated in the TAC-Excellence Swim Meet hosted by the Thunderbird Aquatic Club at the Fidalgo Pool March 2 and 3.
Among the seven teams from the Puget Sound region participating, TAC placed second.
TAC’s top finisher and high scorer was Zoe Hill in the girls 13-14 age group. Hill placed first in the 50 free (25.56 seconds), 100 free (57.12), 200 individual medley (2:32.51) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.42).
Salmon in the San Juan Island waters have a lot to be nervous about this weekend as 1,000 anglers prepare to head out on their boats for the Anacortes Salmon Derby.
The seventh annual derby kicks off with pre-event activities on Friday. Fishing will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to noon on Sunday. A no-host social is Saturday evening and a barbecue is Sunday afternoon before the awards ceremony at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Several Anacortes athletes placed in the top 10 at the Bedlington Twilight Meet March 22.
Anacortes dropped two matches last week, falling to Squalicum 5-2 on March 18 and to Bellingham 7-0 on Friday.
