Shirley Marie Moe

Shirley Marie Moe, 86, of Anacortes died on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Island Hospital.

She was born June 4, 1925 to Floyd and Gladys (Watchous) Russell in Eureka, Kansas. Shirley completed her high school education graduating from St John’s Academy in Wichita, Kansas in May 1943, and for a short time after, worked for Boeing.

She married Jim E. Moe February 14, 1944 in Wichita. Shirley and Jim moved to King City, California, and in 1952 they moved to Anacortes where they raised their children.

Many people in Anacortes will remember Shirley as the cheerful receptionist who greeted patients at the office of dentists Raymond Pinson and Eugene Strom. She also worked as bookkeeper for Anderson Auto Repair in Mount Vernon, and later as bookkeeper for Sound Body Shop in Anacortes.

Shirley enjoyed music, and in her earlier years sang in the choir at the First Baptist Church when it was located on Commercial Avenue. She is a past president of Anacortes Emblem Club. Shirley loved to cook, and catered a variety of events. Jim and Shirley enjoyed many trips to Hawaii with their friends.

Jim preceded Shirley in death on February 21, 2000.

Their three children are Eric Moe and wife Susan of Anacortes, Brian Moe of Santa Monica, California and Rebecca Moe of Anacortes. She leaves grandchildren Heather Schafer (Josh) of Anacortes, Andrew Moe (Holly) of Everett, Shevon Hancock (Greg) of Oak Harbor; great-grandchildren Alaina and Landon Schafer, Elise and Emilie Moe, Aurelia Berk-Sohn and Liam Hancock.

At her request, no services are planned.
