Ruth M. Saillard

Ruth M. Saillard passed away suddenly on February 11, 2012.

She was born on July 7, 1926 in Princeton, West Virginia to Sam and Mable Chapman. Her father was an electrician for the coal mine in Ashland. In 1942 they moved to Newport News, Virginia where her father was an electrician for the shipyards.

During WWII, she was a USO Junior Hostess and met her future husband, Marvin, a returning soldier from the war. Marvin went to the University of Illinois on the GI Bill and after graduating, they started a family and raised their children in Oswego, IL.

Marvin and Ruth retired to Olympia in 1990 where Ruth became a YMCA instructor for the water arthritic exercise class and made many wonderful friends.

She spent the last 5 years of her life happily at Cap Sante Court in Anacortes, looked after by her wonderful caregivers: Agustina, Mary, Sabine, Barbara, Monica, and Destinee. She loved classic country western music and playing SkipBo.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Patricia (Don), son Richard (Jan), grandchildren Steve and Tracy, great-grandson Kaiden, and siblings Shirley, Bill, Ronald, Eugene, Doug and Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin and her brothers Sam and Paul.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes, WA.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
