Lewis Elwood Brown 1931 ~ 2012

Lewis Elwood Brown, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, July 7th, 2012 at his home in Anacortes, WA.

He was born on May 19, 1931 in Santa Monica, California, the son of Lewis Parker Brown and Lucille (Hamilton) Snyder.

Lew graduated from Santa Monica High School and served four years in the Naval Air Corps during the Korean conflict. He earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Architectural Drafting Technology from Los Angeles Technical College. Lew received his license in the State of Washington as an Architect in 1984 and practiced his profession until his retirement in 1996.

The family moved to Kent, WA in 1978 and later to Anacortes in 2001.

Lew enjoyed the outdoors, successfully climbed Mount Rainier, ran the San Francisco Marathon and two Seattle Marathons. He was a member of the Kiwanis Sunrisers for 12 years and served as their Youth Services Chairman from June 2002 to August 2009. He has been a supportive member of the Center for Spiritual Living Anacortes since 1994, serving as a Licensed Practitioner for 44 years and was also on the Board of Trustees. Lew volunteered on the West-end Neighborhood Watch Patrol for several years and was a Hospice volunteer for three years.

Lew and Carol enjoyed traveling for many years throughout Europe, the Far East and South America.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Snyder; father, Ted Brown; and stepmother, Stella Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, with whom he was married for 45 years; his sons & daughter-in-law, Steve and Alberta Brown of Klawock, Alaska and Jason Brown of Tacoma, WA; three grandsons, Devin Dixon, Andrew and Austin Brown; a brother, Dirk Brown of Kent, WA; and nieces Mary Anne Van Zyle and Sally Sharp of Southern California.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Skyline Beach Club in Anacortes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Center for Spiritual Living Anacortes, 1013 5th Street, Anacortes, WA 98221.
