John Edward Knoch, 89, of Anacortes, WA, died January 2, 2012 quietly at home from heart failure following a brief hospitalization. 

John was born March 13, 1922 to John and Elizabeth (Geiger) Knoch in Medina, OH.

He enjoyed 62 years of marriage with Sophia Mary Muff from St. Joseph, MO whom he wed in 1945. Sophia predeceased John by 2 years.

He served four years in the Air Force during WWII as a mechanical flight engineer. John trained as an engineering draftsman and design checker and worked many years in the aerospace industry retiring from Lockheed Martin in 1986.

John and Sophia enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Europe and around the U.S. in their retirement years. He enjoyed visiting old friends and meeting new people wherever he was. As was written in his high school yearbook, “A hearty laugh, a jolly grin, friends galore he’ll always win,” so he was throughout his life.

John and Sophia moved to Anacortes from San Jose, CA in 2005. Here they found a community of new friends and neighbors to enjoy and cherish. He made New Hope Christian Fellowship his church home. 

John is survived by his brother Carl Knoch; daughter Reneé Knoch Johnson her husband Ernie and their sons Samuel and James; son Chris Knoch and wife Beverly, their daughter Ashley, their son Todd his wife Caryn, and their son John; daughter Beth Knoch Wilson and husband Darrell, their son David his wife Kate, and their son John his wife Sandra and their daughters Andrea and Anastasia; and son Dennis Knoch his wife Patricia and their son Evan. 

Visitation will be held from 12:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes, with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 pm at New Hope Christian Fellowship, 1319 – 35th Street, Anacortes.
