Jane Trueblood 1930 ~ 2012

Jane Trueblood

Jane Trueblood, 82, of Anacortes, Washington passed away quietly and peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on April 30, 2012 at Rosario Assisted Living in Anacortes.

She was born on February 9, 1930 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the daughter of Guy and Gertrude (Schloredt) Huckins. Jane was raised in Sundance, Wyoming where she lived in a log cabin on a small “ranch” raising cows, horses, dogs and pigs. She had a lifelong love of horses that she enjoyed later in life with her daughter and grandchildren.

Jane met Glenn Trueblood at the University of Wyoming and they married in 1948. They were married for 46 busy, happy years before Glenn passed in 1994.

Jane lived a full and rich life always enjoying, guiding and supporting her children and grandchildren as well as the many students she taught in the Anacortes School District.

She and Glenn enjoyed traveling with their children and grandchildren, coaching their son’s teams, rooting for the Seahawks and Mariners, playing bridge and Blackjack, listening to country music, golfing and fishing (she could not pass by a river or stream without commenting on its fishing potential). They were avid Disney fans and often took the entire family to Disneyland or Disney World.

After completing her Master’s Degree at Western Washington University, Jane taught for twenty years and recently wrote a book about her experiences as a Special Education teacher.

She also enjoyed gardening, reading, word games, quilting, and most of all, chocolate. Jane was the absolute best wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, always cheering on and encouraging her family, in her quiet, positive way, to be the best that they can be.

Her later years were impacted by physical limitations due to Parkinson’s but she never lost her zest for life, her interest in the well-being of others, her optimism and her wonderfully quirky personality. She enjoyed her time at Fidalgo Care Center and considered her caregivers to be her “family” as well. Jane will be terribly missed by all who knew her, as she truly touched our lives in incredibly positive ways.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Wesley Huckins.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Kimberly Trueblood III; daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Steve Hirsch and Janet and Joe Berends; grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Chelise Neilan, Aaron Hirsch, Colin Hirsch, Andrew Berends, Taelor Trueblood (Scott Little), Cassie Berends, Kelsey Hirsch, Alexandra Trueblood; great-grandchildren, Skyler Neilan and Kaylie Neilan; nieces, Kathy Sowder and Shirley Beckwith.

A family gathering will be held.

Memorials may be made to The Scholarship Fund at Fidalgo Care Center or to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Jane, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
