Woman sentenced in fatal hit-and-run Posted by Kimberly Jacobson | Oct 23, 2012 | 491 views

A 26-year-old Mount Vernon woman was sentenced to three years in prison and faces deportation after pleading guilty to hit-and-run in Skagit County Superior Court on Thursday. The charge stems from a fatal Highway 20 accident in August.

Gisela Carmona Morena allegedly hit a motorcyclist and failed to call for help.

Michael McCurdy, 23, of Anacortes was riding his motorcycle on Highway 20 around 9:45 p.m. Aug. 21 when he was struck by a white Lincoln passenger car as he slowed for another collision blocking the road ahead of him.

The Lincoln, driven by Carmona Morena, left the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol.

McCurdy, who was wearing a helmet, was knocked from the motorcycle, and while he was in the roadway he was hit by another car. That driver stopped at the scene.
McCurdy died the next morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The State Patrol found Carmona Morena after her license plate was found at the scene. Troopers say she called for a tow truck but did not call police after the accident.
She has no previous criminal history.
