Woman pleads not guilty in fatal hit-and-run Posted by Kimberly Jacobson | Sep 12, 2012 | 579 views

A 26-year-old Mount Vernon woman pleaded not guilty Thursday in Skagit County Superior Court to hit-and-run charges stemming from a fatal Highway 20 accident last month.

Gisela Carmona Morena allegedly hit a motorcyclist and failed to call for help, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Michael McCurdy, 23, of Anacortes was riding his motorcycle on Highway 20 around 9:45 p.m. Aug. 21 when he was struck by a white Lincoln passenger car as he slowed for another collision blocking the road ahead of him.

The Lincoln, driven by Carmona Morena, left the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol.

McCurdy, who was wearing a helmet, was knocked from the motorcycle, and while he was in the roadway he was hit by another car. That driver stopped at the scene.
McCurdy died the next morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The State Patrol found Carmona Morena after her license plate was found at the scene. Troopers say she called for a tow truck but did not call police after the accident.
She remains in Skagit County Jail on $200,000 bail.
