Motorists in Skagit and Island counties can expect to see law enforcement patrolling city and county roads in search of unbuckled drivers and passengers and drivers using their cell phones as part of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign May 20-June 2.
Last year, during this same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols statewide issued 3,171 seat belt violations among the 11,047 motorists who were stopped.
Mount Vernon police say a 38-year-old Anacortes man displaying a knife tried to steal a bicycle from the 1600 block of Freeway Drive in Mount Vernon around 4:30 p.m. Monday. The suspect rode off on the bicycle while the victim and witness followed at a distance, reporting it to police, according to the Mount Vernon Police Department.
