A 39-year-old convicted sex offender was sentenced last week to five years in prison and sex offender treatment after he reportedly molested a young boy.
John Edward Bettys of Anacortes pleaded guilty in September to third-degree child molestation. Bettys reportedly molested a then 5-year-old boy he drove to school and baby-sat.
A 33-year-old man was sentenced last week to 25 years in prison after previously pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s stepgrandfather.
Ashlee Smith was charged in Skagit County Superior Court earlier this year with the February killing of Dean Carlton Jackson, 69. Smith pleaded guilty in exchange for prosecutors dropping other related charges for identity theft and various property crimes.
It was noted at the sentencing that drugs played a role in the murder.
