April 14, 1982: Stampede! Anyone who stood within camera range of this mob of Easter egg hunters may well consider himself lucky to have survived the initial stampede. At the sound of a siren, a torrent of youngsters poured through Causland Park at 1 p.m. sharp on Sunday, collecting every egg in sight within a matter of seconds. Members of the Anacortes Lions Club, which sponsors the community event each Easter, held the enthusiastic youths behind starting lines until the appointed time for the hunt.
