Aldridge named student of the month

Alexandra Aldridge, an eighth-grader at Anacortes Middle School was named the Anacortes Kiwanis Sunrisers student of the month for February.

She was selected based on recommendations of teachers, counselors and administrators.

Her school activities include basketball and golf. She also takes art classes. Her hobbies are sewing, reading and painting. In the future she wants to work with people or animals and travel.

She is the daughter of Debbie Aldridge.

Boys & Girls Club recognizes members

The Anacortes Boys & Girls Club honored its March Youth of the Month at its Family Night.

The girl honoree is Abby Longchamps, 6. Abby has been a club member since September 2011 and is in kindergarten at Fidalgo Elementary School. The boy Youth of the Month is Silas Anderson-Graves, 6. Silas is a kindergartener at Island View Elementary School. He has been a club member since September 2011.

Teen Youth of the Month is Claire Severin, 14. Claire is an eighth-grader at Anacortes Middle School. She has been a member since 2010. She has been a teen leader and assists with the Anacortes Club’s Smart Girls program and special events.

Abby, Silas and Claire were chosen because they are good examples of the Boys & Girls Club’s mission to work hard academically, practice healthy habits by participating in club activities, and be good citizens by being respectful and helping others in and outside the club. All three display outstanding behavior as Boys & Girls Club members.

Iverson named student of the month

Soroptimist International of Anacortes named Anacortes Middle School eighth-grader Samantha Iverson its February student of the month.

Her teachers and counselors describe her as “a great student and a mature and responsible young lady who is liked and respected by her peers and teachers.”

She is the daughter of Leonard and Deanna Iverson.

Hiles named Kiwanis student of the month

Tiffany Hiles, an eighth-grader at Anacortes Middle School, was named the Anacortes Sunrisers Kiwanis March student of the month. She was selected based on recommendations of teachers, counselors and administrators.

She is involved in her church youth program and nursery. Her hobbies include reading, fishing, boating and traveling. In the future she would like to work with children in a children’s hospital.

She is the daughter of Wendy and Steve Hiles.
