Hospital foundation gala brings in record $190,000 Posted by Jacob Buckenmeyer | May 16, 2012 | 177 views

The guys and dolls were all dressed up to dance the Charleston and fight cancer last month.

Island Hospital Foundation’s ninth-annual Gala of Hope: “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” transformed the interior of the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed Event Center into a 1920s Ritz-Carlton luxury hotel lounge April 21.

The event raised $190,000 to support services at Island Hospital, with support coming from sponsorships and ticket sales, but mostly from the annual live auction.

Foundation Development Assistant Breanna Bart said about $61,000 was raised in “Heartstrings” donations alone. That money will go toward the hospital’s new cancer care pharmacy in the Medical Arts Pavilion.
