Officer John Taylor announced he will retire July 31 after serving 26 years with the Anacortes Police Department.
Anacortes was recently awarded a $675,000 federal grant that will make it safer for kids to walk and bike to school. It includes funding for street upgrades, education and enforcement.
The sunshine was out for the annual Fourth of July celebration Monday, which included the Town Photo, parade, Patriotic Program and fireworks.
A 60-year-old Kirkland man was arrested by Swinomish Tribal Police for boating under the influence around 6 p.m. Saturday.
Tribal officers were doing boating safety checks in the area when they noticed smoke coming from the 47-foot vessel, which was up on the rocks about 100 yards east of Burrows Island. The boat was taking on water.
